Hi,
I have a curious effect: When using CoovaAP firmware version 1.06 beta I have no problem to connect my XP-SP2 laptop wireless with WPA. The connection comes about fast and is stable.
However, when I change over Encryption Type to 'Disabled', then the connection comes about very slowly, the connection is shown as 'Not connected' although there is clearly working connection established.
Very strange. I cannot imagine this being a Windows problem, since it does not appear to happen with the original Linksys firmware. Has anyone else had similar problems? Or even a solution?
Cheers
Hanno
Re: Connection Problems when using Encryption Type 'Disabled
Solved the problem myself:
mtd erase nvram
on ssh resolves any connection problems.
Re: Connection Problems when using Encryption Type 'Disabled
Hi,
I have an update to make: I flashed back to Linsys Firmware for my WRT54GL and look there: The problem is the same.
I can connect to a WPA2 secured wireless connection without problem and it never drops out. When switching to an unsecured wireless network configuration, the laptop will connect the first time, then drop out after a minute or two, and then at best come to the state depicted below - or not connect at all. I dug a little deaper, and it appears, that when the state of 'unconnected conectedness' :) is reached, the actually there is no IP address assigned in the connection. Pressing the 'repair' button, does not resolve the issue.
I realise now, that this issue is probably of more generic nature, but I just cannot find anything meaningful on Microsoft's support pages. Has anyone had experience with this kind of error in the past? Is there another forum anyone can recommend for these issues?
Any hint is appreciated.
An enthusiatic but slightly frustrated beginner :(

Hmm... you can switch to Mac! :) Or try another connection manager. Btw, if you end up getting windows to behave or use a connection manager (perhaps SecureW2?), I'm interested in getting screen shots for the wiki!
Re: Connection Problems when using Encryption Type 'Disabled
Hi,
rebooting the router (=disconnect poer supply and reconnect) after changing the settings did not bring the desired results in gaining and stabilising connection.
This is by the way indipenednet of CoovaAAA, RADIUS or any other additional software.
This error is occurring on Windows level (see attached screen shot). See how it says 'Not connected' at the top but the button below says 'Disconnect' (because the computer is indeed wirelessly connected.
Any suggestions?
Re: Connection Problems when using Encryption Type 'Disabled
When switching wireless modes and/or changing the hotspot settings, try to restart the router when having problems. When chilli starts up, it will check your wireless settings for wpa and adjust some configuration settings so that 802.1x RADIUS passes through chilli for accounting (and other features like wpa guests).
