I have a linkys wrt54g and i installed coovaap firmware and now i want to install back the original linkys firmware. How i can duet that because the upgrade don't accept .bin files.
Ive come across the same problem, and this is how i solved it: i opened up the router, and took a pin and placed it between pins 16 and 17 on the chip. which forces the router into accepting the new firmware via tftp. Now this seems very technical, but trust me its dead simple.
below are two sites which describe how to do it in detail:
I have a linksys wrt54gl model, and i had to short pins 16 and 17, but some models (most) have to short pins 15 and 16.
Another thing which should be noted is that from the coovaap firmware i wasnt able to load the original linksys firmware directly, i had to first load the dd-wrt mini firmware via tftp, and then i used the web interface to upgrade to the original linksys firmware.
tftp scares people how dont wanna use the terminal or command prompt, and if one can use a simple gui program to accomplish the same thing why not? so here is a link to the tftp program on my website which will upload ur firmware after shorting pins 16 and 17 or 15 and 16:
Simply unzip and open the exe, and then use port 69. The address of the router must be 192.168.1.1 which means that before you get started you will have to set a static address for ur pc: 192.168.1.10 then to make ur life alot easier get someone to plug the power cord into the router while you short the pins. Be sure that the network cable is plugged in, and also to see if the shorting of the pins has succeeded you can get a constant ping going, which will indicate as to whether or not it has worked. to do this in windows ping -t 192.168.1.1
Then after you see one or two replies from the router after shorting the pins, simply unplug the power cable. leave the pings running, plug the power cable back in, and as soon as you see the ping replies, then click on put in the tftp program and it will upload the dd-wrt mini firmware which will enable you to load original linksys firmware.
Hope this helps.. if not email@example.com
use tftp to re-install the default linksys firmware.
This is widely documented.
